Q: What was the vision for the renovation project?
A: It was our goal to create a destination that would enhance the community of Poway, particularly the commercial corridor of Poway Road. We wanted to make the center a multi-purpose destination for residents of Poway. Together with the City of Poway, we created a plan that was consistent with the City's long-term plans for growth and improvement. The plan included upgrading the overall look of the center, improving parking and access, making the center look more like its neighbor to the East, and conforming to the City of Poway's Poway Road Specific Plan for commercial properties located on Poway Road.
Q: What was the scope of the renovation project?
A: The renovation project consisted of three main phases:
Improve ingress and egress to the center, including increasing turn radii for entrances and exits, improving the existing Easterly exit on Poway Road, reconfiguring parking to improve drive lanes, and straightening out the fire lane access on the Western border of the property. |
Update the facade of the center to more of a Spanish Colonial feel, bringing it into conformance with the City of Poway's Poway Road Specific Plan. |
Add an elegantly landscaped outdoor seating area to the Northwest corner of the property, increasing the number of food service providers on Poway road. |
Q: How did the changes affect parking?
A: Today, Poway Plaza has 302 parking spaces. The property was slightly under-parked according to City standards for the types of uses in the center. With the renovation complete, 60 new parking spaces have been added, increasing the center total to 362 spaces and exceeding City of Poway minimum parking standards.
Q: How long did construction take?
A: Construction started in November 2004 and was completed in June 2005.
Q: What types of new businesses are now located in Poway Plaza?
A: We have brought in tenants such as Pickup Sticks, an Asian food restaurant, Robek's Juice and smoothie shop, Spicy Pickle, a deli restaurant, and a Wells Fargo ATM.

Q: Did the project plans meet the City of Poway design criteria for Poway Road?
A: Yes. We began working closely with the City of Poway more than a year before construction started. Their input throughout the process was invaluable. The result is a collaborative effort that is a true win-win for the community, the City of Poway and Poway Plaza that conforms to the Poway Road Specific Plan adopted by the City Council.
